First Annual 'Grace, Grit & Glory'
A Celebration of Women Rowers

Over 150 women (and a few men too!) from every imaginable age and rowing background came together last Friday, January 11, 2013 to celebrate decades of friendships, athletic achievements and professional accomplishments at the first annual "Grace, Grit & Glory: A Celebration of Women Rowers".  Guests were treated to a presentation by Chris Ernst, World Champion, Business Owner and Title IX pioneer; and by Nancy Douyon, who told her incredible story of using skills honed in CRI's G-ROW program to catapult herself to high level personal and business success.
Community Rowing is honored to have hosted such an incredible and inspirational group of speakers and guests.  Photos from the evening can be found here (https://www.facebook.com/Grace.Grit.Glory).

We already look forward to planning next year's event!  If you would like to get involved, please contact Tracy Smith at tracy@communityrowing.org

Experience Makers Wanted!!
'What Works' Summit 2013
Share your enthusiasm for CRI and the sport of rowing on the weekend of February 1st - 3rd! We are looking for volunteers to make the 'What Works' Summit 2013 a one of a kind experience. Here is an opportunity to draw participants into the engaging and welcoming community that is CRI.

Volunteers will be asked to complete an evening training session prior to the start of the 'What Works' Summit. This meeting is important as we will review the tasks that each volunteer position is required to complete. The rehearsal time gives us the opportunity to streamline the volunteer roles. It is also a great time to meet the people with whom you will be working!

The volunteer training meeting is on Thursday January 24th at 7:00 pm in the 1980 Room (Meeting Room).

Upon registering for your shift(s), you will receive an email further detailing your responsibilities for the shift(s).

Best,
Matt Lehrer & Matt Zatorski
January Challenge Update...
Our Progress is Fantastic

We Have Rowed 14,095,235 Meters & Counting!!!

Half way into the January Challenge; we're doing great!  We had a good crew logging meters at the boathouse while watching the Patriots victory.  Thanks to Sandra, Kane, and Bruce for making that happen.

Today is the day the rosters close for the challenge.  Check the roster at http://log.concept2.com/team/profile.asp?rt_index=4073 and look for you name.  If it's not on the list, you won't get a certificate.  To get one you have to act today.  If you use the clipboard log, email Jane Morse at jgmorse@morses.net and she will add you - then log your meters; if you have an elog on Concept 2, go to your logbook, click on the Teams tab, and click on the join the challenge link.  Of course, if you're not on the roster, we can still use your meters in one of the generic CRI logbooks.

As of 1:20 Tuesday afternoon, January 15th, 349 of us have logged meters and together we've rowed 14,095,235 meters. During the week, 135 new people logged meters; together the 349 of us logged 7,822,088 meters - more than 1,000 each day last week.

We remain in second place overall and first among the on the water clubs.  The Croatian Club, HAVK Mladost is in fourth overall, second among the on the water clubs, passing Riverside.  They are 3.5 million meters behind us and we've widened our lead over them by 1 million meters during the week.   Riverside is in 6th overall and third among the on the water clubs, 5.5 million meters behind us - we widened that gap as well.  We continue to do well.  Next Saturday is Riverside's 12 hour erg relay, so we'll see a surge from them.  CRI's ergothon is Jan 26th.  We'll  get a surge when we get the meters from the Row Boston Middle School program during the week.

During the next week, we should reach the half-way point on our trip rowing around the world.  If we headed north from the boathouse, we'd have passed over Siberia, China, Korea and find ourselves off Vietnam.  If we headed west, we're still in the big Pacific, having just passed Fiji and American Samoa; Australia is 2 days away.  If we'd gone south we'd be over Antarctica, a half day from the South Pole.  And if we headed north east over Europe, we'd have passed over the Middle East and be near the Maldive Islands in the Indian Ocean off Sri Lanka.
