January Challenge Update...
One Week In and 6,273,147 Meters

One week into the January Challenge; we're doing great!  On New Year's Day, there were more than 30 rowers at CRI logging the first meters of the challenge.  We were joined by many others erging on their own, and together logged 400,000 meters.  Great way to start the year!

As of 2:20 Tuesday afternoon, January 8th, 214 of us have logged meters and together we've rowed 6,273,147 meters. We're in second place overall and first among the on the water clubs.  Riverside is 2.2 million meters behind us, although they're rowing more meters per person than we are, and in 5th overall.  The Croatian club, HAVK Mladost, is next - 200,000 behind Riverside.

On Sunday evening, we'd rowed west across the US and reached the Pacific Coast in Northern California. Today, at 6.3 million metes, we're about 2 million away from the big island of Hawaii.  If we instead headed due South, we'd be in southern Peru at Lake Titicaca.  If we'd headed due east, we'd have crossed the Atlantic near the Canary Islands (where Brian Fuller started his trans-Atlantic row last year) and would now be in Mauritania in West Africa.  Or if we headed more northerly towards Europe, we'd be on the German-Austrian border.  Not bad for a week's rowing effort.

A couple of reminders:

1)      you can still join our team and any meters you row in January count.  But the deadline is next Tuesday, January 15th. You can get directions for joining at the front desk at the boathouse.

2)      If you don't want to log your meters in the on-line log, you can write them on one of the clipboards in the community room.  We'll do the data entry.  To get a certificate, you need to have made your first entry by Tuesday, so we have you as part of the team.

Go CRI!!

You can sign up for the 2012 January challenge team now by visiting the Concept 2 web site (www.concept2.com) and logging onto your online logbook, or creating one.  Once you log-on, click on the profile tab to make sure that your affiliation is Community Rowing, Inc.  (don't click on the CRI team, left over from years past).  Then click on Teams at the top of the logbook page and in the Team Challenge box, click on the highlighted area to join the challenge.  Your meters start accumulating until January 1.

If you don't want to be bothered with setting up an online log book and logging your meters online, we'll have clipboards with log sheets available in the Community Room.

Here is the info:

Team Name: Community Rowing, Inc.

Team Captain: Jane Morse

Questions? Catch Jane at the boathouse (she'll be there erging) or e-mail her at: jgmorse@morses.net

With all the erging that goes on at CRI, how can we NOT be #1 in the challenge? You just need to record and log your meters.
