Dear Friends,
I hope all of you had a wonderful Holiday Season and a Happy New Year! As I begin my term as your Board Chair, I want to let you know more about my background and why that background will help you and the Chamber grow your business. As a solo lawyer, I have represented small businesses for more than 25 years and, before that, I was a full-time employed lawyer for public companies. I believe this experience will enable me to make the Chamber a valuable part of your business.
I also want you to know that the Chamber needs your assistance in continuing to serve as a knowledgeable and engaged business advocacy group, both in Dallas and statewide. Our major committees are Community Affairs, Legislative Affairs, Membership Services, and Economic Development and each committee has many projects and programs that could benefit from your help. Activities range from neighborhood cleanups to zoning issues to our annual gala and golf tournament. Click here to read more about our committees and fill out our committee sign-up form if you would like to get involved in these efforts. Some of these activities result in the Chamber being a part of a larger coalition of interested persons and groups and I would be very happy to discuss any of those activities with you.
The Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce believes that healthy and educated residents are the basis for sustainable economic development, not only for businesses in Oak Cliff, but for all businesses in the state of Texas. That is the reason that we will be active in the following activities in 2013:
- Seeking changes to low income housing laws to enhance sustainable communities
- Advocating budget transparency to the Texas Legislature so that the state will discontinue diversion of dedicated funds
- Protection of public education and Medicaid funding
- Advocating for sustainable economic development of Jefferson Blvd. and the UNT Dallas area
- Encouraging the Texas Legislature to authorize Texas to run its own insurance exchange under the Affordable Care Act to benefit small business owners
If we can achieve those goals in 2013, I believe your business, Oak Cliff and the city of Dallas will be a better place to live and do business. Sincerely, Scott Chase, Lawyer 2013 Board of Directors Chair |
