While August is a month-long holiday for many Europeans, August is a "holiday-less" month here in the United States. Actually, depending on your age, you might even dread August -- it means school and/or work is right around the corner! As summer winds down, don't despair... there is still time for a global getaway!
    
If you are thinking about a trip, why not plan your itinerary to coincide with a celebration (or two!) happening around the world? You can even sneak in some destination specific beauty rituals. Read on for details!
 
1. If you want a taste of Valentine's Day in summer, go to Taiwan! This year Lover's Day will be celebrated in Taiwan on August 20th. The equivalent of our Valentine's Day, it is a widely-celebrated day for couples. There will be fireworks, special pastries, and terrific musical performances. As a plus, Taiwan (and many other Asian countries) offer the perfect combination of culture and relaxation: You won't find a better place to detox with tea and massages!
 
2. How about an "Independence Day Round 2?" There are many countries that celebrate their own freedom in August, but we recommend trying Estonia's Independence Day on August 21st that technically celebrates the day that Estonia's independence was restored in 1991. Estonia is a gorgeous country that houses Tallinn --its walled, cobblestone-lined capital. Tallinn is a charming city that offers a fantastic combination of old-world European influence with Eastern European fare. Try out the Estonian beauty ritual of long, hot soaks followed by salt exfoliation. 

 3. Finally, if you are looking for a place a little easier to get to (and more familiar) how about the glorious Edinburgh, Scotland? For three weeks in August, Scotland has the Edinburgh Festival, which happens to be the world's largest art festival! It is a combination of classical music, opera, theatre, and dance. During this time, Edinburgh turns into an arts-driven frenzy, and people from all over the world flock to take part in its famous displays! While you're there, try the Scottish sea kelp hair treatment for stronger, shinier hair.

Ingredients:  

  • 1 packet or 1 scoop of BeautyScoop
  • 10 medium strawberries
  • 3 handfuls of blackcurrants 
  • 2 tablespoons "runny" honey (tea honey!)
  • 1 1/3 cups coconut water
Preparation:
  1. Hull strawberries, rinse blackcurrants, and place in blender.
  2. Pulse with coconut water and honey to taste.

  4. Enjoy!
