July is the quintessential summer month. If you have kids, they are officially out of school, and the "back-to-school" shopping doesn't start till next month! If you don't have any children (or they are past school age!), July is the number one month to take vacations. Although the Fourth of July has passed, we bet the outdoor BBQs and pool parties haven't!
 
  
Thanks to the extra daylight, you probably find yourself with at least a little more downtime. Beauty and health experts -- including Dr. Michelle Yagoda, co-founder of BeautyScoop -- recommend using some of this extra time to pamper yourself. Not only is giving the mind a rest vital, but it is very important physically, too!
 
We have compiled a few tips to help you unwind this month. They can easily be done in your own home, but our recommendation would be to combine them with a change of scenery. Perhaps there is a beach calling your name.....

1. Get on "island time." Unless you have somewhere to be, try ignoring the clock for a while. Structure your day around how you feel, and don't worry about doing things at the "right" time! Yes, this includes not glancing at your phone every few minutes! This is a hard one, but it is amazing how relaxing it is when the "time pressure" is off. 

2. Go outside! Experts suggest spending at least 30 minutes outside in the sun. Your skin will absorb its necessary vitamin D quota, and there is a good chance your mood will be boosted, too. There is a reason so many people suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder: The sun makes you happy!

3. Give yourself a mini manicure. By pampering your nails, not only will you feel refreshed, but you will help protect them from the foils of summer (dry heat and sand). Use cuticle trimmers to trim any dry skin, and then soak your nails in warm water. Once nails are soft, gently rub off any old polish. Dry nails, apply moisturizer, and wrap in a warm cloth. Once absorbed, paint them with whatever color you feel like! The key to a good paint job is thin, light layers and adequate drying time. 

4. Take a bubble bath. Bubble baths aren't just for kids! Try "bathing like an Egyptian" and not only will your mind unwind, but your skin will benefit, too. The key is using full-fat milk, as it will both exfoliate and re-moisturize any dry areas. Pour 1 and 1/2 cups milk and 1/2 cup honey under warm, running water. Swish around to mix, and then hop in! To get the full benefits, dry-brush your skin for five minutes before soaking. 

See? Easy enough! There are many simple steps you can take to help reduce stress this summer. The heat can be tough, but longer days and warmer weather should be reminiscent of simpler times. Give it a try!

Ingredients:  

  • 1 packet or 1 scoop of BeautyScoop
  • 1 cup fresh, cubed pineapple
  • 1/4 cup fresh pineapple or orange juice
  • 1/2 cup low fat, organic, vanilla yogurt
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 or 3 ice cubes
Preparation:
  1. First, peel and cut pineapple into small cubes (you have time!). 
  2. Combine all ingredients except ice in blender. Blend on medium-high until frothy.
  3. Add ice and blend again. 
  4. Enjoy!
