BeautyScoop packet
Dear  Contact First Name ,
Welcome to 2014! Are you thinking about changing up your style for a fresh start? Do you want a new hair color, one more ear piercing.... or maybe even a tattoo? Go for it! We at BeautyScoop have compiled a list of safety tips, age limits, and interesting facts to help you shake up your new look.

1.  Dying Your Hair: Although this may come as a surprise, it is not recommended to use permanent or demi-permanent hair color on anyone under the age of eight (We know!  We thought it was older, too)!  As for highlights, these should be reserved for those in their teenage years or later. And, if you are over forty, stick to standard colors that cover gray (no bright pink please)!  If you have allergies or sensitive skin, stick to "off the scalp coloring" with foils or an old-fashioned highlighting cap; it is much gentler on your skin!

2.  Keratin Hair Treatment: Have you always wanted straight hair? Keratin treatments are effective but are not for those under 18.  Keratin's risky reputation really depends on the formula: Stay away from those that use formaldehyde, and always stay in a well-ventilated area.

1.  Tattoos: Did you know that it is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to get a tattoo? And for good reason - they are permanent! Before choosing one, think about how it might look when you are older, and ...ahem...less fit and toned.  If you decide to get a tattoo, make sure to pick a reputable tattoo artist and definitely make sure he/she wears gloves and observes good hygiene! Verify that all needles are sterile before letting them enter your skin.

2.  Piercings: There is no medical evidence to support any age restrictions for earlobe piercings. Just make sure that if it is done on a young child, that she doesn't rip the earring out and "hide" it in her nose! Overall, the biggest risks of earlobe piercings are infection or allergic reaction to the nickel or metal stud.  Piercings in the nose, lip, tongue and upper ear carry significantly more risk of cartilage or blood vessel damage.

1.  Gel Manicures: Boasting chip-free benefits, gel manicures are long-lasting. However, they are not safe for children or (ideally) young adults. Due to the chemicals used, nails, nail beds (and lungs) can be negatively impacted. Additionally, if the UV machines are not properly regulated, the UV rays can be harmful to both sensitive and young skin.

2.  Nail Polish: Although many young children love to get their nails painted, nail polish is not safe for children who find themselves putting their fingers in their mouth or biting their nails! In addition, vapors can be quite toxic when inhaled especially in children's lungs.  Find a salon with good ventilation and choose a formaldehyde-free formula.
