September marks the end of summer.  It is the time to start anew.  As the school year begins again, the cooler air returns once more, and Jews (and soon Muslims, too) even welcome a new year.  For everyone, September brings a change in the weather and a time to make amends for summer skin sins that led even the best-intentioned astray!

Here are 4 steps you need to take in pursuit of skin perfection:

1. Exfoliate.  Remove
dead skin cells in the top layer of the skin and you will see brighter, softer, and more even skin.  Exfoliation helps the skin to more easily absorb nutrients. In addition, it reduces clogging of the pores and can keep acne at bay.  During the summer, most of us exfoliate less because the act can cause the skin to be more sensitive to the sun, and it can wreak havoc on the quintessential sunless tan!  At the end of the summer, it is super important to exfoliate by manual or chemical  means (peels, lasers and dermabrasion) so that dry skin and trapped oils (and even leftover self-tanner) can be eliminated!

2. Investigate.  Skin cancers account for nearly half of all cancers in the US.  In fact, current projections estimate that 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime.  A blistering sunburn in childhood can double an individual's risk of developing skin cancer.  It is imperative, especially at the end of summer, to have a skin check.  Yearly checks by the doctor, and monthly self-checks can optimize early detection of growths that may be precancerous or even cancerous.

3. Re-hydrate.  Dry skin isn't just caused by aging and its associated loss of natural oils and slower cell turnover; it is also brought on by extremes in temperature.  Day to day sun exposure during the long days of summer afford us more hours to spend sailing, swimming and surfing in the salt water;  building and digging in the sand; basking, biking and hiking in the dry heat; and swimming and floating in the pool's chlorinated water.  But, at the end of summer, it is important to moisturize and re-hydrate the skin both topically and from within.  Beauty Scoop will provide you with peptides and lipids (SPLs) - the extra-nourishing building blocks your body needs as a restorative treatment to boost its own regenerative powers. It also contains collagen and hyaluronic acid for unsurpassed skin health, smoothness and hydration.

4. Protect. We've said it before and we'll keep repeating it until everyone remembers that even though the days get shorter and cooler, the UVA rays stay the same all year long.  Whether outdoors, or behind polarized glass, UVA rays can cause damage.  Remember to protect your skin by applying a daily sunscreen.  Select a more moisturizing sunscreen after the summer's end --- one that contains hyaluronic acid for optimum hydration.  And, perhaps, opt for a tinted sunscreen to extend an end-of-summer glow.

September is a vital time to address summer sun damage and prepare for the new season ahead.  Follow the four steps noted above, and remember to eat a balanced diet, follow a healthy lifestyle, and consult with your doctor to select the best anti-aging skin care regimen.  All this and a hefty endowment of good genes will cultivate more perfect skin!.
