Christ Church Cathedral, 2919 St. Charles Ave, New Orleans

On January 17, 2015, the Diocese will once again hold its Service of Racial Reconciliation at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Church Cathedral in New Orleans. This Service of Morning Prayer will include a dynamic new preacher, the Anna's Arts for Kids Children's Choir, and a reception that will provide not only a delicious array of food, but an exceptional opportunity for fellowship among a diverse group of people from throughout the Diocese.

Sponsored by the Diocesan Commission for Racial Reconciliation, the Service will be the inaugural event in a year-long initiative to establish reconciliation groups in every parish in the Diocese of Louisiana. The Bishop has charged the Commission to establish such groups to assure that each parish not only adopts an anti-racism identity itself, but reaches out to their respective communities to eliminate racism wherever it may have taken root.

Addiction Recovery Ministry Women's Retreat

Solomon Episcopal Conference Center , 54296 Hwy 45, Loranger

The Addictions Recovery Ministry of the Diocese of Louisiana will hold its annual retreat for women who are in recovery, wish to be in recovery, or are just interested in recovery spirituality.  Please forward this information to any women who might be interested.  The retreat is the weekend of January 9-11, 2015 at the Solomon Episcopal Conference Center.

Our facilitator for the weekend is Polly Pistole who began her sobriety journey in 1977.  She has lead numerous retreats dealing with recovery and relationship topics.  The theme of this weekend is "Emotional Sobriety".  Polly will share the wisdom found in some of Bill W.'s letters about Emotional Sobriety and how she has taken her sobriety to a new level by studying what Bill had to say.  Emotional Sobriety is mentioned 17 times in the first 164 pages of the Big Book. Polly will look at how character defects such as approval addiction, intolerance, resentment, anger, jealousy, fear, sarcasm, blame, and many others affect our emotional sobriety; and how practicing good habits and making them part of us can restore our balance.

Third Sunday Concert: Zion Harmonizers

Christ Episcopal Church, 120 S New Hampshire St, Covington

The Third Sunday Concert Series at Christ Episcopal Church in Covington will host the world acclaimed Zion Harmonizers on Sunday, January 18 at 5 p.m.

Celebrating 75 years of harmonizing, the Zion Harmonizers is the oldest active quartet in New Orleans, tracing its roots back to 1939 when the group was formed in the Zion City community. They performed in virtually all of the major gospel concerts that came to New Orleans during the '40's, '50's, '60's, throughout the '90's and until today. In honor of their 75th anniversary, the group released a new CD, "Bringing in the Sheaves," in the Spring of 2014.

Although they usually perform at small venues in and around New Orleans, they are known internationally. According to Brazella Briscoe president of the group, their music uplifts the heart and satisfies the soul as they glorify the Lord through their Southern Gospel sound. It pleases them when the audience claps and sings along.

Members of the group are Brazella Briscoe, Sr., Lead Vocals; William Briscoe, Sr., Bass Guitar; Prof. J. B. Warrick, Keyboards/Organ; Willie Williams, Guitar/Vocal Bass; Franklin Smith, Baritone Vocal; Marion Chambers, Jr., 1st. Tenor Vocal; Benjamin Francois III, 2nd. Tenor vocal; and Charles Harris, Drums.

All concerts in the Third Sunday Concert Series begin at 5 p.m., are free and open to the public, and are followed by a reception where the audience may meet the performers. Christ Church is located at 120 S. New Hampshire Street, Covington, at the entrance to Bogue Falaya Park.
