Free TV!
from Karen Mackey, Diocesan Communications Coordinator
We recently replaced our old video conferencing equipment and now have a TV that needs to find a new home. It is a 48" (give or take an inch) Magnavox (circa 2007, give or take a year) on a rolling stand. (Sorry but the black filing cabinet it is perched on is not included!)
The TV is located in the Noland Center 2nd floor conference room. It is free but you must haul it down the flight of stairs. This big thing may or may not fit in the elevator. Contact Karen Mackey at [email protected] or (504) 895-6634. First to respond and willing to haul it can have it.

Upcoming Trainings / Workshops / Web Conferences |
Families Reunited:
Immigrant Family Reunification Training
for Trainers / Facilitators
with Robin Stern Hamby, Family Partnership Specialist, Fairfax County Public Schools, Virginia
What is it? Professional development that informs and qualifies you to facilitate parent education curriculum that addresses the issues of reuniting immigrant children with their families and/or caretakers.
History of the Program School staff in Fairfax, Virginia identified a need for resources to address the high needs population of recently arrived Central American immigrant students and their families. The children often migrated unaccompanied after years of separation from their parents. Along the journey they suffered emotional and physical trauma. This in addition to deprivation, abuse, and violence in their home countries made adapting to the United States extremely difficult.
Who might benefit from this training? Anyone working with newly immigrated children and/or families, especially school counselors, ESL teachers, classroom teachers, social workers, psychologist, chaplains, etc.
Where is it? St. Augustine's Episcopal Church's Byrd Hall, 3412 Haring Road, Metairie, Louisiana
Cost? Each participant is being asked to pay only $15 in advance to offset materials cost. If the $15 fee presents a problem, scholarships are available by contacting Deacon Elaine Clements, [email protected]
When is it? (Choose one of two sessions) Monday, November 17, 2014
9 a.m. to 12 noon
6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
How do I register? Register online at https://secure.acceptiva.com/?cst=f66f9f
Questions? Contact Deacon Elaine Clements with any questions, [email protected] or 504-236-1133
Funding for this program is being provided by Episcopal Relief and Development and the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana

Stephen Ministry Introductory Workshop at St. Luke's, Baton Rouge
Saturday, November 1 from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Want to learn to be an active listener and reach out to others in a distinctively Christian way? On Saturday, November 1, St. Luke's, 8833 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge, will host a Stephen Ministry Introductory workshop from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and refreshments will be served. The half-day workshop consists of three sessions designed to enhance care-giving skills and to help congregations explore ways to expand their caring ministry.
"The needs for care in our congregation and community were much more than the clergy could handle alone," said Becky Williams, one of the leaders who oversees Stephen Ministry at St. Luke's. "So we enrolled in Stephen Ministry and are now equipping our members to provide quality one-to-one care."
The workshop is sponsored by Stephen Ministries, the St. Louis-based Christian training organization that has been providing congregations with training and resources for Christian caregiving for more than 30 years.
Session 1: Ministering to Those Experiencing Grief will discuss the stages of grief and how to minister to people in each stage.
Session 2: Introduction to the Stephen Series describes the training process to become a Stephen Minister and the active caring program, in which a Stephen Minister meets regularly with someone who is experiencing a life crisis or challenge, such as the death of a loved one, divorce, hospitalization, job loss, loneliness, or relocation.
Session 3: How to Care in a Distinctively Christian Way discusses what makes Christian caregiving unique and how Stephen Ministers can use resources like prayer, blessings, and scripture in their caring for others.
Cost: $15 per person, or $50 for a group of four or more from the same congregation.
To register: Call Stephen Ministries at (314) 428-2600 or register on-line at www.stephenministry.org/workshop.
"I encourage people to attend," said Fr. Bryan Owen, rector of St. Luke's. "Participants will go home with practical ministry skills and an excellent understanding of how they can organize the members of their congregation for caring ministry through the Stephen Series."
