I was reading from William Martin's book The Art of Pastoring the other day. He writes,
"How would you pastor if you could not speak? How would you love the parish if you were immobilized in bed? If you can answer these questions, you know the truth of your calling..."

Sometimes we put too much emphasis on speaking or doing to the point we are oblivious to what is right in front of us. Martin's words are bouncing through my brain. How would I pastor? How might you? I hope you will take time this summer to ponder.MKT

Baton Rouge Area Girls Choir Forming

Following in one of the finest Anglican choral traditions, St. James is excited to announce the formation of the St. James Girls Choir, which will begin formal rehearsals and performances in August 2013. The choir will be open to girls who will be in grades five through ten in the 2013-2014 school year.

The choir will also be open to girls in the greater Baton Rouge area who may come from other faith traditions and congregations. The St. James Girls Choir will offer a unique and exciting opportunity to introduce our young ladies of St. James and Baton Rouge to the glorious musical traditions of The Episcopal Church.

Admission into the choir will be by audition. Although no prior musical training will be required, it is important that this be something the young chorister wants to do and that she is keenly interested in ensemble singing, and is willing to do the work to develop her skills. This is a choir for girls who love to sing! The choir will sing at two nine o'clock services each month, and will rehearse every Tuesday evening during the school year. For more info click here.

Jericho Road Episcopal Housing Initiative celebrated the completion of its 30th affordable home construction on June 25, 2013.  Hard work, dedication and collaboration with many partners has enabled Jericho Road to transform what were once dirt lots into what are now 30 single family homes. Families looking for opportunities to live healthy, affordable, independent lives, while building wealth and security through homeownership, find their future in a Jericho Road home.  To see more photos of the day visit us on Facebook.
