NEEDED FOR GOOD HOME: SEWING MACHINES

All Souls' Episcopal Church and Community Center in New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward is starting "Sit & Sew" classes at the end of the month. The Sit & Sew classes will offer entry-level lessons in the sewing arts for adults & children 15 and up. These courses are for beginners, with instructions on how to use their sewing machines, learning how to do hand stitching, basic sewing or learning shortcuts to techniques they may already know. It's also a good class for people who sew but need motivation to do so.

A few machines are available at the Community Center, but very few registrants own their own machine. Sewing is a skill that lasts a lifetime, and can be both a money-saver and money-earner. If you have a sewing machine gathering dust, this is a worthy project that could put it to good and proper use! Carolina Gallop, the Administrative Assistant at All Souls' is also a fashion designer and the volunteer teacher for "Sit & Sew." She says tune-ups and repairs are no problem, if you have a machine to donate to their group.  For more information, please call Carolina at 504-218-8995 or on her cell at 504-931-7779.
