ECSLA Offering Spring Workshops

Episcopal Community Services of Louisiana will be providing training opportunities for parishes seeking to create sustainable ministries throughout 2013. This is a result of meeting with various vestry members and the development of the Diocesan Asset Map project.

A core component of ECSLA's mission is strengthening the capacity of our churches to better engage with and serve their communities. We pursue this aim in a variety of ways, including assisting church leaders to know the needs, strengths, and potential partners in their community, as well as to better understand the physical and human assets in their midst. Throughout 2013, ECSLA invites parishes to take part in workshops addressing the needs of church leadership and the congregation.

Congregations and dioceses across the Episcopal Church are invited to commemorate Episcopal Relief & Development Sunday on February 17, the first Sunday in Lent, by incorporating the theme of global concern and partnership into their worship and community activities. Episcopal Relief & Development's Lenten focus this year is on alleviating hunger while preparing ourselves for spiritual healing.

QUIET THURSDAYS IN LENT

Many of us are seeking ways to prepare to observe with devotion the days of our Lord's passion and resurrection. Advent House has a tradition of opening its doors during Lent to those who want an opportunity for prayer and contemplation.

This year, you are invited to come to Advent House (located at 1637 7th Street in NO) on Thursdays for Morning Prayer at 9:30 AM followed by a period of quiet on each Thursday in Lent. You can end your time with the Eucharist in the Cathedral Chapel at 12:15 or continue until afternoon. Bring a sack lunch or go to the Corner Grocery or the Fresh Market; water and coffee will be provided. Advent House will remain open to visitors until 5:00 PM each Thursday. No reservation is needed.

The Quiet Days will begin on February 21 and continue every Thursday through March 21. Call Linda at 504-895-0553 if more information is needed.
Beginning February ChurchWork will be published as an electronic magazine. Publication frequency will increase from four issues to six per year, and will feature active media content in addition to standard articles and event announcements. The new ChurchWork will easily interface with most portable electronic readers, as well as with your home or office computer. Of course, the magazine can still be printed out on a standard computer printer if you want a hard copy to carry around with you.
