An Advent Quiet Morning planned for Saturday, Dec. 8
The Very Rev. Susan Gaumer, rector of St. Andrew's, New Orleans, will lead an Advent Quiet Morning on Saturday, Dec. 8 at All Saints Church, 100 Rex Drive, in River Ridge. The event is sponsored by the Episcopal Church Women. All men and women in the New Orleans area are invited to attend this special three-hour time of spiritual reflection in preparation for a blessed Advent season.
Mother Gaumer will focus her meditations on Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist, and Mary, mother of Jesus, Biblical women who figure prominently in Advent readings. The Quiet Morning will start at 8:45 am with continental breakfast and fellowship in Morris Hall adjacent to the church. Mother Gaumer's program will begin with opening prayers in the church at 9:15 followed by her first meditation at 9:30. She will lead two more meditations at 10:30 and 11:30 with dismissal at 11:45. During the three silent periods, participants are welcome to pray or read in church or the parish hall, meditate, rest or catnap, stroll the grounds, or get coffee. Participants regroup in church for each meditation on the half hour.
No stranger to River Ridge, Mother Gaumer was a lay member of All Saints Church before attending The University of the South's seminary at Sewanee, Tennessee. She subsequently was ordained to the priesthood in 1993. She has been rector of St. Andrew's, New Orleans since 1999, is dean of the Uptown Deanery and serves as the ecumenical officer for the Diocese of Louisiana.
Come and take part in this Advent Quiet Morning to be refreshed and nourished as part of your Advent discipline.

Give the Gift of Hope to Storm Victims
In the spirit of Christmas, St. Paul's Homecoming Center, a ministry of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in New Orleans, is asking people across our area to consider "adopting" a family through a donation of $100, about the cost of one night out at a nice restaurant, as they raise funds through Episcopal Relief and Disaster for Hurricane Isaac victims in Braithwaite, LA, and Hurricane Sandy victims in the East Coast.

A donation of $100 will buy much-needed groceries, gasoline, cleaning supplies or household items . Most of all, $100 can give an impacted family hope and the knowledge that they are not forgotten.
In order that families receive the assistance by Christmas, donations should be made no later than December 15 either online by clicking HERE or mailing to the Homecoming Center at 1509 Filmore Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70122. Please indicate on your check if you want the money donated to go to Braithwaite or the East Coast. Money raised for the East Coast will be given to Episcopal Relief and Development to help with their work assisting disaster-impacted families.
