In the 1800s, American Baptist missionary Joanna P. Moore earned the nickname "Swamp Angel of the South" for establishing fireside schools for freed slaves. Over the years, countless American Baptist women have made a difference in myriad places and in innumerable ways. Chances are that an American Baptist woman has had a positive influence in your life, as illustrated in a video by the Rev. Dr. Marilyn P. Turner, American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS) associate executive director of Missional Life and Leadership.
