Committee Expands!

The Rev. Dr. Harry Simmons, Board-certified healthcare chaplain, and Chairperson of the Committee is pleased to announce four new members. Joining the Rev. Richard Harris, former ABHMS staff and director of ABPS and the Rev. Dr. Marilyn Turner, current ABHMS staff  associate executive director are: the Rev. Julia Bebeau, pastoral counselor; the Rev. Diana Meehan, retired Navy Chaplain; the Rev. Dr.  Jeffery Garland, Board-certified healthcare chaplain; and the Rev. Patricia Ray, Board-certified healthcare chaplain. These four American Baptist clergy have decades of experience in specialized ministry settings. The members of the AB Endorsement Committee and the AB Chaplaincy & Pastoral Counseling Ministries team will continue to collaborate to ensure the ecclesiastical recognition of American Baptist called to ministries in specialized settings. Visit Ecclesiastical Recognition.

CELEBRATIONS!
Diana Meehan retires after almost 28 years serving as a Navy Chaplain. She took off her military uniform and hung it up for the last time on 31 Dec 2014. When first discerning what she refers to as that "call within a call", she prayed long and hard before making the life-changing decision to venture into chaplaincy. She strongly identified with the passage in Genesis 12:1; and to this day she doesn't regret that decision to step out in faith and accept the call and the privilege to provide spiritual care to the courageous and committed men and women who wear the cloth of our nation . It has made her a better person and pastor.

 

The Rev. Dr. Glenn H. Asquith Jr. received the 14th Helen Flanders Dunbar Award for Significant Contributions to Clinical Pastoral Training on Sunday in Chicago during the 2015 conference of the College of Pastoral Supervision & Psychotherapy (CPSP).
