Pastoral Care Week October 20-26, 2013

Pastoral Care Week celebrates those who provide spiritual counseling to others. American Baptists have a long and honored tradition of endorsing women and men called to minister in specialized settings. American Baptist endorsed chaplains and pastoral counselors provide care in specialized settings such as hospitals, prisons, businesses, industries, long term care facilities, pastoral counseling centers, hospices, military settings, nursing homes, corporations, congregations, schools and universities throughout our world.

We invite all American Baptists to join us in proclaiming October 20-26, 2013 as Pastoral Care Week and encourage all to celebrate the contributions of pastoral caregivers within the American Baptist family. Chaplains and pastoral counselors bring life and health to our communities. Pastoral caregivers listen carefully to all voices and work to promote the growth of the human spirit. We recognize and celebrate the rich diversity of these voices in our midst.

REFLECTIONS FROM THE MISSION SUMMIT

The following words/phrases are representative of the comments from chaplains and pastoral counselors who participated in the 2013 C&PC Pre-Biennial event. Although not the complete set of responses, they are exemplary of the power of fellowship, relationship and vocational renewal we experienced together.

The full set of comments and feedback will also inform future American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS) efforts in support of our network of chaplains, pastoral counselors and other individuals who minister in specialized settings.

As you reflect on these comments, we encourage you to
be in prayer for each other and for the ministry to which we
are all called.

Many blessings as you minister the love and grace of Christ.

Invitation to EMERGE

The office of Chaplain and Pastoral Counseling Ministries at American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS) encourages you to register to attend the 2014 National Ministers Conference, which is open to all American Baptist Churches USA (ABCUSA) clergy.

To assist you in attending the conference, ABHMS is offering a subsidized registration fee of $75 for endorsed chaplains and pastoral counselors.

This is another opportunity for those who minister in specialized settings to meet and share together, as well as to fellowship and network with other ABCUSA clergy.

ABHMS will host an agapé meal for registered chaplains and pastoral counselors 5-6:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 6, prior to the conference's Opening Worship, which begins at 7:15 p.m.
