February already!  The Florida weather has been PERFECT.  Almost no rain and all the annual flowers look glorious.  Of course, this is the time of year we all congratulate ourselves on being so smart to live here.  Sure beats shoveling snow!

Be sure to read about Scripps Florida and discover more about this incredible institution conducting research, finding cures and saving lives.  Laura was fotunate enough to join a group of women from the WNGA for a tour and light lunch.  Learn how you can organize your own personalized tour as well.

Learn more about Swaps and Trades and see January's BallenIsles sales in Real Estate Newsl.  We have been extremely busy and we are loving it!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Swaps and Trades

Since almost every seller is really a buyer in disguise who is prevented from buying because they can't sell, it makes sense to try to match up sellers who want to buy with other sellers who are also would-be buyers.  Besides, membership issues are complicated and a swap makes it a breeze.

A trade is an exchange of properties where the owner of the lesser priced property trades his home for the more expensive one plus the cash differential.  So here's a way to facilitate a swap.  Let us know what you are looking for in a new home and we will try to match you up with a resident whose property may be the perfect trade.  The benefits are obvious, no market time for your own property, no intrusive showings or Open Houses, take your membership level with you and potentially reduce costs.

We believe many residents wish to remain in BallenIsles, but find themselves living in homes that no longer meet their current needs.  Some want to downsize and others need more space but home sales have been brisk and owners fear they will be forced to sell before they find the right property to purchase.  Alternatively, it would be extremely risky to buy another more suitable home before your current property has sold.  We can help.  We already have a Swap List of interested residents who wish larger or smaller properties, but have not found the right fit.  We would be happy to include your requirements and work on finding a trade.

Discover
Scripps Florida
Scripps Florida is an academic research facility with investigators in six departments: Cancer Biology, Chemistry, Infectious Diseases, Metabolism and Aging, Molecular Therapeutics, and Neuroscience, as well as the unique Translational Research Institute, which includes the Advanced Technologies and Drug Discovery divisions.  Let Scripps know your interest in Cardiovascular Disease, Autism, Cancer, Arthritis, Alzheimer's, Diabetes, Aging or some other focus and a customized itinerary will be planned for you.  We guarantee you will be awe struck and inspired.
While the focus of basic scientific research is to understand the mechanisms that lead to disease and its potential treatment, the Translational Research Institute seeks to identify new biochemical targets for drug development, and to optimize and further develop these drug candidate lead compounds.

Biomedical Research. Scientific departments are focused on finding answers to some of the most critical biomedical questions and, ultimately, to understanding in detail the fundamental processes of life. The overarching goal of this research focus is the development of therapeutic opportunities in several important disease areas.  Scripps Florida's research targets include, among others, neurobiology (Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, autism, schizophrenia, anxiety/depression and addiction), cancer biology, immune system studies (asthma, rheumatoid arthritis), cardiovascular and metabolic research (heart disease, diabetes, obesity and metabolic syndrome), and infectious diseases (Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, malaria, tuberculosis, hepatitis C, HIV/AIDS).

Advanced Technologies. Scripps Florida has made a major commitment to the development, acquisition, and expanded use of advanced technologies for the post-genome era of modern biomedical research.  The Translational Research Institute combines basic research with advanced technology platforms or "cores" to develop potential lead compounds that can prevent, treat, or cure disease.

The Genomics Core generates data and manages its collection and initial processing related to micro-array analysis and new generation deep sequencing. Micro-arrays, also known as gene chips, are basically glass or silicon wafers with short fragments of RNA and/or DNA deposited on their surface. By placing cell or tissue samples on these wafers, scientists can study which genes are being expressed, the levels of expression and how that expression changes over time.

The Proteomics Core focuses on the application of liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry to identify, quantify, and characterize proteins and post-translational protein modifications. Investigators in this division are involved in scientific collaborations with numerous Scripps Florida scientists as well as several outside investigators at other State and nationally recognized research institutions.

Drug Discovery. The objective of the drug discovery group is to translate basic research into potential therapeutics by integrating the work of the biomedical faculty, who provide therapeutic area expertise and in-depth knowledge of target biology, with the advanced technology group that helps enable target validation, assay development and biological models.
