Nominations
Books published in 2014 are eligible for the 51st Georgia Author of the Year Awards. Due to technical difficulties with the website, nominations will be postponed to limit form malfunctions. If you are on the "News About GAYA" mailing list, you will receive a special email when nominations reopen. If you are not on this list and would like to join, click the "Update Profile/Email Address" link at the bottom of this email.
New Categories
New fiction categories include: Detective/Mystery, Graphic Novel, Humor, Romance, Sci-fi/Fantasy, and Supernatural/Paranormal. Animal Book has also been added to the nonfiction categories. Descriptions of all the available categories can be found in the guidelines.

Saturday, December 13, 2014 from 12:00 to 2:00 at the Decatur Public Library
Victoria Wilcox, winner of the 2014 Georgia Author of the Year for First Novel, is the speaker of the GWA's annual Holiday Party in December. This workshop details the steps to selecting an agent, creating a successful agent submission, and managing the business of publication. This event is free! 30 Below Contest
Deadline: November 15, 2014
Entry Fee: $22.00
A prize of $1,500 and publication in Narrative is given annually for a poem, a short story, an essay, or an excerpt from a work of fiction or creative nonfiction by a writer under the age of 30. More Information
Rousseau Prize for Literature
Deadline: November 15, 2014
Entry Fee: $30.00
A prize of $1,000 and publication by National Poetry Review Press, in collaboraiton with Dream Horse Press, is given annually for a collection of poetry or flash fiction. Profits from entry fees are donated to a different animal-welfare organization each year. J. P. Dancing Bear and C. J. Sage will judge. Submit a manuscript of 35 to 100 pages with a $30 entry fee ($32 for electronic submissions) by November 15. Visit the website for complete guidelines.
Writer's Digest Short Short Story Competition Deadline: November 17, 2014 Entry Fee: $20.00 A prize of $3,000, publication in Writer's Digest, and an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2015 Writer's Digest Conference in New York City is given annually for a short short story. A second-place prize of $1,500 and publication is also awarded. Submit a story of up to 1,500 words with a $20 entry fee by November 17, or with a $25 entry fee by December 15. Tupelo Quarterly Prose Contest
