50th Georgia Author of the Year Nominations

Deadline: February 15, 2014

Each year, the Georgia Writers Association hosts the Georgia Author of the Year Awards, which recognizes Georgia authors who published in the previous year. Books may be nominated in one of 13 categories. At the awards banquet in June, one winner and one finalist will be announced for each category.

 

So You Want to Write a Book: Ideas, Challenges, and the Finished Product

David Tucker, DeKalb County Public Library Coordinator for Collections and Peggy Vonsherie Allen, Director of the Roads and Drainage Department for DeKalb County will discuss the steps they took, from start to finish, to get their books published.

How to Write About Grief and Loss

Saturday March 15, 2014 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM EDT

Jessica Handler, author of Braving the Fire, will teach attendees how to write well about grief and trauma. While retelling a painful or otherwise traumatic past can be a cathartic experience, workshop attendees will also learn ways to communicate these experiences in a way that creates a powerful connection with the reader.
