From The President
Business Cares
It's the holiday season, a time for giving and giving thanks. And I would like to give thanks to the members of the Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce for their giving over the past 12 months. As you know, the Chamber is a non-profit organization, and as such we spend a great deal of time asking for your support as members, sponsors, advertisersand attending our programs. However, we also recognize the fact that as a "community-based organization" we have a responsibility to give back ourselves.
Unfortunately, our limited resources prevent us from providing financial support to the many worthy organizations that approach us during the course of any given year.
However, what we can do is connect our member businesses to a variety of other non-profit organizations in the community and leverage the strength of our organization to maximize the impact of our efforts through collective giving. For example, last week at our annual Holiday Kickoff After Hours at Davio's, we asked members to bring an

unwrapped children's toy to the event. I am happy to say that there are now over 100 toys sitting in the Chamber office (they are still coming in) that we will be presenting to Toys for Tots later this week. How's that for making an impact?
And you don't just do it during the holidays, you do it throughout the year. Our Fashion Show last spring included a clothing drive at which we asked for your gently-used business attire so that people who were getting their lives back together and interviewing for jobs would be able to make a strong first impression. We were able to fill a truck with the
clothes that you donated and present them to Goodwill's "Put Your Clothes to Work" effort. We also donated $1,000 from the proceeds of the Fashion Show to Birthday Wishes, an organization that brings birthday parties to homeless children. Read more... |

Meet The Board
Brian Johnson
Doc Shredding Corp., Wrentham MA
Brian Johnson founded Doc Shredding Corp. in January 2006 as a one person, one truck operation. Utilizing a solid background in the hospitality industry he was determined to provide the best service in an industry not known for it's attention to customer service.
"As a business owner, Brian brings a unique perspective to the Board of Directors. His appreciation for running a business helps us gear our programs toward the needs of other small business owners. That, plus he's a lot of fun, making him a great addition to the Board." Tom O'Rourke, President.
Doc Shredding will also be honored at the Annual Meeting & Awards Dinner on Thursday, January 10, at Showcase Live as the Small Business of the Year for not only a stellar customer service record, but a commitment to community and non-profit organizations.
Moving forward Doc Shredding Corp hopes to continue to grow and maintain an active role in business leadership and community contributions. |

Advertise with the Chamber
Chamber of commerce websites are frequently sought out when potential customers are looking for products and services in a local area. In fact, a 2007 study (by the Schapiro group) showed that when potential customers know that a small business is a member of the chamber of commerce, they are 44% more likely to think favorably of it, and 63% more likely to purchase goods or services from the company in the future. Chamber credibility is important and it positively enhances click through rates.
For the past four years, online local ad sales had a compound growth rate of 48 percent and are projected to reach $13.9 Billion in 2009 (+7.5%). At the same time, other forms of advertising are projected to decline 1.4%. Advertising continues to shift away from other media and more toward online opportunities because it is cost effective, measurable, flexible, targeted, and most importantly - it works!
