Depending upon whose survey you read, there are said to be anywhere between 120,000 and 150,000 job openings in Massachusetts and yet, nearly a quarter of a million Massachusetts residents remain unemployed. The reason for this is what is known as a skills gap in middle skills jobs. So what is a "middle skills" job? Basically, one that requires more than a high school diploma but not a four-year college degree. Increasingly, jobs are being created that require such skills, but we are not training or re-training enough people to fill these jobs.

At the same time, we are experiencing a nationwide achievement gap when it comes to college readiness in math and science skills among our high school students. Additionally, I hear often from employers that today's young employees often lack basic "soft skills" necessary to for the workplace. Things like people skills, proper dress, written and verbal communication, etc. cannot be taken for granted anymore. (Read more)

Will I EVER be able to Retire?

As many of you know (thanks Tom) I hit a milestone birthday back in January and it got me really thinking - What am I doing about retirement? Is it enough? How long will I have to work before I can retire? Will I ever be able to retire??? Will Social Security even be around?

I know many of you are asking yourselves these same questions, so now is the time to get some answers!

Join us for "Will I Ever be Able to Retire" with acclaimed Author, Mark Singer as he takes us on a journey through the retirement process.

Chances are, you won't be able to reach your retirement goals if you don't have a map that shows how you will get there.

In this presentation, Mark explains how developing a clear retirement roadmap will help you focus your retirement goals, take the mystery out of the decision-making process, and make it easier to achieve your objectives.

Today's economic climate is a tumultuous storm; I don't plan on trying to wade through the craziness without a plan. Let Mark set you on the right course to financial security in your golden years! Sign up today.

 Advertise with the Chamber

Chamber of commerce websites are frequently sought out when potential customers are looking for products and services in a local area. In fact, a 2007 study (by the Schapiro group) showed that when potential customers know that a small business is a member of the chamber of commerce, they are 44% more likely to think favorably of it, and 63% more likely to purchase goods or services from the company in the future. Chamber credibility is important and it positively enhances click through rates.

For the past four years, online local ad sales had a compound growth rate of 48 percent and are projected to reach $13.9 Billion in 2009 (+7.5%). At the same time, other forms of advertising are projected to decline 1.4%. Advertising continues to shift away from other media and more toward online opportunities because it is cost effective, measurable, flexible, targeted, and most importantly - it works!

Don't delay, contact Cristoff more more information and affordable rates to fit any budget.
