Teaching for Change is celebrating 25 years of providing teachers and parents with tools to create schools where students learn to read, write, and change the world. This year also marks our tenth anniversary of operating the Teaching for Change Bookstore at Busboys and Poets, a destination progressive bookstore in D.C. That chapter of our history will come to a close on April 26 as we transition to an online only bookstore. We invite you to read and share memories of the bookstore and shop our in-store sale.

"We are made of stories. Scientists say that human beings are made of atoms, but a little bird told me that we are also made of stories." -- Eduardo Galeano

América Libertad Calderón

América Libertad Calderón, Teaching for Change senior parent organizer, lifelong fighter for justice, and champion of people's stories, passed away one year ago on April 17, 2014. At Teaching for Change we are inspired to honor América's legacy through our Tellin' Stories parent engagement project and our campaign to Put Central America on the Map in Schools.

Eduardo Galeano

Uruguayan writer and people's historian Eduardo Galeano passed away this week at age 74. Galeano is the author of many invaluable books including The Open Veins of Latin America, Soccer in Sun and Shadow, and Children of the Days. (Artwork by Erin Currier)

Earth Day: April 22, 2015

New Teaching Activities on Climate Change

On this 45th anniversary of Earth Day, the stakes are higher than ever for the future of our planet. Our collective house is burning down, and the least we can do is help our students understand why and consider ways to respond. The Zinn Education Project, a project of Teaching for Change and Rethinking Schools, released four new lessons on environmental justice available for free download.
