Jesus was attending a wedding in Cana of Galilee when an embarrassing situation occurred-namely, they ran out of wine.  This wasn't supposed to happen, but Jesus took care of the problem.  He transformed the water into wine and, in so doing, performed His first miracle.

This miracle of transformation came about only after some servants were obedient to do what he instructed them to do.  Mary had said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you" (John 2:5).  They did what Jesus said and thus were a part of what Jesus did. 

The Lord has chosen more often than not to perform His miracles of life through human instrumentality.  Remember some would not have been fed had not a little boy offered up his lunch.  Lazarus would not have come forth from the grave had not someone rolled away the stone.  And they would not have enjoyed new wine had not servants been obedient to Jesus.

We, too, must be obedient to do whatever He asks us to do.  We are His hands and feet and there will, no doubt, be great blessings to others and for ourselves if we will choose daily to be His servants. 

There's something else of interest to me in this historic account from the life of Jesus.  Through the miracle in Cana the Apostle John tells us the Lord "revealed his glory" (John 2:11).  This serves as one more feature of inspiration from this story of transformation.  It should be our consummate desire not only that others would be blessed but that our Lord would be glorified through our service for him. 

Lord, sculpt our hearts and shape our lives to serve and glorify thee!
