eHomily  by Pastor Ron...

The Apostle Paul, in the second chapter of Colossians, warns about the threat of deception:

"I tell you this so that no one may deceive you" (Col. 2:4).

"See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy..." (Col. 2:8).

Deception has always been an integral part of military strategy. For instance, the British used it to their advantage in World War II in North Africa during the campaign against the German forces led by General Rommel.   The British constructed paste-board look-a-likes of tanks and airplanes to deceive the Germans. Their reconnaissance planes and personnel were fooled repeatedly by the fake equipment and weapons which were easily moved by the Brits and repositioned for maximum effect. This served to confuse the German army, alter their plans of attack and discourage their advances.

Satan, the Father of Lies, is recognized throughout scripture as the King of deception. There is no doubt that the Deceiver was the unseen force attacking the church at Colossae.   These faithful followers of Christ were warned to be alert to the voices of evil which were selling false ideas about God and life.   The Apostle Paul declared the best way to defend yourself against evil is to be armed with the truth. Paul said, "Just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught..." (Col.2:6-7).

This is good advice for us today because deception is still a part of the spiritual warfare we face daily from the forces of evil and the Father of Lies. Our best defense is to be armed with the truth of God's Word, built up in the faith, and to walk daily in step with our Lord and Great Commander. The Lord is our strength and our victory!

So don't be deceived or defeated. Live by the truth of God's word!

Blessed in His Truth,

Pastor Ron
