God has a purpose for us! The Apostle Paul speaks to this matter in Colossians 2:2 where he begins with "My purpose..." as he talks about encouragement and love. He later ends this section as he speaks to the subject of thankfulness. So the thankfulness required of us is part of God's purpose for us. This teaches me that my gratitude should be expressed intentionally and not as some kind of mindless activity...
I read about two men who were walking through a pasture when suddenly an angry bull began to chase them. They ran for the fence as fast as they could move. One of the men hollered to the other, "Say a prayer." But the other shouted back "I don't know any." The first man said, "You've got to-the bull is getting closer." So the first man said, "Okay, I'll pray the only one I know." As the horns of the bull came within striking distance, the running man offered this prayer: "For what we are about to receive, dear Lord, make us grateful!"
The apostle Paul is not talking about mindless activity but that which is part of God's overall purpose for me. The good things of God's grace are reason enough to be grateful. But I can be assured, as well, that gratitude, as an attitude of the heart, will prove beneficial to me both spiritually and emotionally. So fulfill your purpose and be fulfilled as God has purposed!
Have a Blessed Day!
