I love a good Christmas story-and one of my favorites is the story of Harold and the children's Christmas play. Every year the small town of Plainview conducted a big production which involved many of the children from the local school. Well, to put it kindly, Harold was not one of the best and brightest students in school. But he so wished to be in the play. This put the director of the play in an awkward position to find something-anything-he could do in the theatrical production. He worried whether he could do any acting role in the play. But, finally, he decided to give him the part of the Inn Keeper.  All Harold had to say was, "I'm sorry, there is no room in the Inn."

The night of the big play arrived and the local church was packed. At the precise moment, Mary and Joseph came and knocked on the Inn door. But the whole village of Bethlehem shook as Harold tried to open the cardboard door to the Inn which was stuck. At last He got the door to open, and the pitiful young couple was standing there looking all too real to Harold. But with a little coaching from backstage, Harold delivered his words forcefully: "I'm sorry, all the rooms are full, and there's no room for you here."

The couple turned sorrowfully, as rehearsed, and began to slowly walk away. But, suddenly, the Inn door swung back open and Harold ran up to the retreating couple and said in a loud voice so that everyone in the audience could hear, "Wait a minute. Come back. You can have my room!"

That certainly was not the way the script was written, but the audience seemed to all agree that it was a welcome addition to the Christmas presentation and it was the best one ever!

The little town of Bethlehem may not have provided a room for the Savior, but you don't have to follow the script either. Open wide the room of your heart and invite Jesus to live inside of you. That's what He wants and what you need. Jesus said, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him and he with me" (Revelation 3:20).

If you will do this you, too, will have the best Christmas ever!

Christmas Blessings,

Pastor Ron
