Are you like me-do you love a good story? Well, I've got one for you that will make to a good start for your Saturday...
The story is about a small boy and his dog. The dog loved his master and the young boy loved his dog. They seemed inseparable at times. When the dog was with his master he was obviously full of joy-if his tail wagging was any indication.
When the boy went to bed at night, the dog jumped on the bed to lie down beside him. When the boy got up at night to go to the bathroom, the dog would follow him and sit at the bathroom door until the boy got out and went back to bed and then he would jump back in bed with his master. When the boy got up in the morning and went to breakfast, the dog would go with him and sit at the boy's feet. When the boy would go to school the dog would walk with the boy to the bus stop. Then the dog would sit down and wait for the bus with the boy. When the bus arrived, the boy would get on the bus. Then the bus would drive off and the dog would run alongside the bus until the bus outpaced it. When the boy came home from school, he would find the dog sitting at the bus stop, waiting for the boy to come home. The boy would then walk home with his dog at his side. When the boy ate dinner in the evening, the dog would sit there at his feet. The dog would then follow his master around until it was time to turn in for the night. At this point, once again he would jump up in bed and go through the whole process again the next day and the next, day in and day out, always wagging his tail.
What caused the dog to so bond with his master? Who knows for sure-but it likely had something to do with the first day they met. You see, when the dog was just a small puppy he was abandoned. One day he was wandering the street, a mangy, unkempt, and skinny mutt. That was the day the young boy saw him for the first time. This young boy took the pup home, fed it, bathed it, resuscitated it and most importantly loved it. Since the dog was abandoned, he adopted it. It became his very own dog and best friend. Before long it became apparent from the dog's tail how happy it was with his master. Who knows what runs through the mind of a canine? But it always seemed to casual observers that somehow the dog instinctively knew what his life would have been like without his master. As a result, he showed affection and loyalty to the little boy for all the days of his life.
Perhaps you can relate to that dog. It's true that our Master rescued us from the streets of sin and eventual doom. The grace of God found us and through the gospel of Jesus Christ we have been saved and our lives are different now. We have purpose, meaning, and a new relationship with the living God that is for all eternity. We have every reason for joy and gratitude because of our Master!
Two questions I want you to ponder today:
- Where would your life be if it weren't for your Jesus?
- How have you shown loyalty to your Master since that day?
Think about it-
Blessings and More Blessings,
Pastor Ron
