This issue extends discussion of the Open Letter in Support of Historians in Japan which touched off extensive discussion in the Japanese, Chinese, South Korean and US media, as well as responses from Japanese neonationalists in the Japanese blogosphere coinciding with PM Abe's visit to the US. Our coverage includes a Japanese critique of the Open Letter and a report on two events at Central Washington University that produced perhaps the sharpest debate on the issues to date in the United States.
