The building housing the York Daily Record/Sunday News and York Dispatch has been sold to Principio Health Center LLC for $3.35 million. The newspapers will continue to operate in the building under a long-term lease.

Erie Times-News increases revenue with audience-based advertising revenue development program
With the help of LEAP Media Solutions, Erie Times-News helped a local assisted living facility profile current donors and identify new donor prospects within the Erie Times-News print and digital audience segments. The newspaper then created a comprehensive advertising campaign for the assisted living facility, resulting in impressive incremental advertising revenue.

New Media Investment Group to purchase Halifax Media Group

New Media Investment Group, parent company of GateHouse Media, has agreed to purchase nearly all the assets of Halifax Media Group for $280 million. The deal includes 36 newspapers across the Southeast and will close in early 2015.

Former publisher Donald Edward Doyle passes away
Donald Edward Doyle, former publisher for The Wayne Independent (Honesdale), The News Eagle (Hawley), The Carbondale News and The Villager (Moscow), passed away last week. He was 75. Doyle began his more than 50 years in newspapers as a janitor at his hometown newspaper, The Salem News. In the mid 1990s, he was named "Boss of the Year" by the Honesdale Area Jaycees.

Q:  Our newspaper sells gift subscriptions around the holidays.  Does the gift subscription allow us to call people who receive gift subscriptions who are on the Do Not Call Registry?

A:  State and Federal Do Not Call laws prevent newspapers from calling consumers on the Do Not Call Registry unless newspapers have an "established business relationship" or have received express written authorization from the consumer.

Advertising workshop regionally offered on Dec. 12
We're coming to western PA! PNA is On the Road in Butler with a regional workshop focused on advertising.   Prepare for 2015 with sales strategies and revenue-generating ideas, while exploring digital opportunities and the use of data.  Sessions are appropriate for both sales managers and reps.  9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Butler Eagle.  Lunch included.  Find more details on our calendar.

Entry materials now available for student Keystones
Through the Student Keystone Press Awards, the PNA Foundation is once again recognizing young journalists from four and two-year colleges, as well as high schools across Pennsylvania, for their outstanding efforts.  Advisers are encouraged to share this opportunity with students!  Entries are due Jan. 12.  Visit our website for rules and to enter online.

Hands-on learning for college journalists
Students wanting to build resumes and increase contacts should participate in the PNA Foundation's Online Reporter Project.  While covering the 2015 Pennsylvania Press Conference, May 29-30, participants will produce a website chronicling the conference and awards presentations through reporting, interviewing, video, photography and copy editing.  This is an incomparable experience for students enrolled in journalism and communications programs in Pennsylvania.  Applications are available online.
