Effective date of Building and Energy Code
The effective date of the new 2015 Minnesota Building Code (amended 2012 IBC) and 2015 Minnesota (Commercial) Energy Code is June 2, 2015. ICC anticipates shipment of the 2015 MN "I" Code building and energy code books beginning around May 1.
Building Official Forum
As I mentioned at the Building Official Institutes this winter, CCLD plans to host a half-day forum in a central Minnesota location this June. The forum will discuss the current challenges that face building officials and the future of this career path. We will share more information as we finalize plans.
Building resiliency presentation
A researcher from Georgetown Climate Center will present her findings and recommendations for improving building resiliency in Minnesota on May 1, 2015. Our agency will host the event from 10 a.m. to noon at its St. Paul office location. Space is limited so please contact Laura Millberg and put "Building Resiliency May 21" in your e-mail's subject line if you would like to attend.
Division opinion
CCLD has published a new division opinion about what constitutes an existing building for the purposes of when residential fire sprinklers are required. View it online at

Legislation
The legislature is in recess this week, but will reconvene next week to complete their work before the May 18 deadline. CCLD has been tracking and testifying on a number of code-related bills. Let me know if you have questions on any that you have been following.
