WELCOME TO USTA TENNESSEE'S E-NEWS FOR JUNE!

It's summer time and that means a lot of tennis is going on across the state and throughout the Southern Section.

The state's top juniors traveled to various sites throughout the section to compete in the Southern Closed Championships. See how Tennessee's juniors finished in the story below.

We want to recognize the Tennessee Senior Cup team for their win at the 28th
Annual Southern Senior Cup, and for donating a portion of their prize money to the USTA TN junior voucher program.

Congratulations to all the 18 & Over Adult League teams who will advance to the Southern Section Championships later this summer. Many thanks to Knoxville and the Greater Knoxville Tennis Association for all their help and support throughout the weekend.

We'll see some of you in Memphis for the 40 & Over Adult League Championships in July! We are also looking forward to a great JTT Championships in beautiful Chattanooga in July!

Thanks Tennessee for all you do!

Over 300 kids enrolled in 10 and Under tennis clinics in Davidson County Community Centers

USTA Tennessee has partnered with 9 Nashville area Community Centers to introduce kids to tennis. The community centers are offering beginner instruction to their participants. The USTA's 10 and Under program is designed to keep kids active and introduce the fun that tennis offers. Equipment sized right for age and ability lets kids play on shorter courts with smaller racquets and slower, lower-bouncing balls. Read more

10 and Under Coaches Workshop-Chattanooga, TN

On June 4, 2014, 13 area tennis instructors arrived at the Girls Prepartory School in Chattanooga, TN to participate in the USTA Tennessee 10 and Under on-court workshop. The 3 and a half hour event was hosted by Tennis Service Representative for Tennessee, Karl Davies and GPS Director of Tennis, Sue Webb.

The purpose of this instructional event was to educate coaches and other tennis instructors on the best way to work with young children to foster a love of tennis. These 10 and Under Workshops are the cornerstones of the new Coach Youth Tennis program designed to provide coaches with the skills needed to engage and teach kids ages 10 and under. Tennessee Senior Cup Team Donates Portion of Prize Money to Helping Juniors Play

The Men's and Women's Senior Cup Team from Tennessee dominated the recent 28th Annual Senior Cup 2014 event in Huntsville, AL. They gave it their all on the courts, and then decided to keep giving off the courts.

Team Tennessee won both the coveted Mildred Southern Award and the Gil Stacy Memorial Award, which goes to the team with the most championship points and most individual wins, respectively. After much consideration, the team, comprised of top men's and women's players from across the state, decided to donate a portion of their prize to USTA Tennessee's Junior Tournament Voucher program. Donations were also made to the American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge, and the American Heart Association.

"We reviewed several of USTA TN's projects," states Senior Cup team captain, Dana Butchee "and we decided to give to the voucher program. It is a state wide program and will offer the opportunity for children to get to play a tournament. It's our way of connecting with these young players and hopefully instilling a love for tennis that lasts them a lifetime. "
