Sam Morell Citizen of the Year

Tee time is 1pm and cocktails and dinner start at 5:30pm when the Armonk Chamber of Commerce celebrates the good citizenship (and general bonhomie) of Sam Morell, its 2015 Citizen of the Year. The date is Tuesday, May 12 and the place is the Whippoorwill Club in Armonk. Sam is the founder of the Small Town Theatre Company. The company also produces a Summer Music Series at Wampus Brook Park. The event is chaired by Jason Rosenzweig of Castle Cab. The Chappaqua Farmers Market returns to the Chappaqua train station on Saturday, May 16. Up to five farms sell produce at the market and, on any given Saturday, you can find a couple dozen more from over 38 vendors that pass through each year. New vendors in 2015: Bien Cuit Bakery, Letterbox Collective Farms, with their quirky heirloom tomatoes; All You Knead Bread, Itsa Pizza Truck and Happy Belly Baby Food. The Running Goddess 5K race at Lasdon Park in Katonah supports the Running Goddess Scholarship Fund that provides money to female high school graduates in Westchester and Putnam counties who are interested in pursuing a math, science or technology education. Pictured here is Allyson Winter and her mom. Allyson was last year's Running Goddess Scholarship winner for her work researching the effect of psychology on the recovery of breast cancer patients. She represented Westchester County at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair and now attends Providence College. Run here.

Little Shop Of Horrors, the quirky musical from Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, based on the 1960 Roger Corman film about a florist who raises a plant that feeds on human flesh. The 1982 musical ran off Broadway for five years, was made into a motion picture in 1986 and produced on Broadway in 2003. Its early rock and doo-wop songs include "Skidrow Downtown", "Somewhere That's Green", and "Suddenly Seymour is standing beside you, You don't need no make-up, No need to pretend ...".  Dates, times and tickets.
Pinkster Day at Philipsburg Manor

Philipsburg Manor's Pinkster Day recreates this 17th century African-American spring celebration with a colonial-style festival of music, dance and food. Including presentations of drumming, traditional dance and African folktales. Phillipsburg Manor is the only living museum dedicated to the history of slavery in the northern colonies. It is one of six local sites of the National Trust for Historic Preservation managed by Historic Hudson Valley. Read more.

2nd Annual Stayin' Alive 5K & Fun Run in Windmill

This event is organized by the newly formed non-profit Stayin' Alive that raises funds for North Castle First Responders. It features a 5K run followed by a fun run for kids.
