Westchester Jewish Film Festival at Jacob Burns  Jacob Burns' Westchester Jewish Film Festival opens this week with 38 films and live programming celebrating the grand sweep of the Jewish experience. The lineup includes everything from forbidden footage from Nazi propaganda films to Hitchcockian thrillers of concentration camp survivors searching for lost loved ones in post-war Berlin. Zero Motivation, aka M.A.S.H. in the Negev, offers a humorous take on women in the Israeli military. Plus documentaries like Famous Nathan (pictured here) of the legendary Coney Island eatery, Touchdown Israel (yep an Israeli football league) and The Outrageous Sophie Tucker. Mazel Tov. |

Big weekend for Cabaret and Broadway  Rising star Cyrille Aimee's stylings are influenced by the guitar jazz of Django Rheinhardt and the Brazilian guitar rhythms of the samba and the bossa nova. See her at The Palace in Stamford on Friday. The Midtown Men, four stars from The Jersey Boys, bring their new show, Sixties with a Modern Twist, to the Tarrytown Music Hall on Thursday. And The Broadway Dolls, straight from the cast of Chicago, Rock of Ages, Mama Mia and Grease sing and dance to everyone from Lady Gaga to Frank Sinatra at the Ridgefield Playhouse on Saturday. Author Talk with Allison Pataki in Chappaqua  The Chappaqua Library presents an author talk with NY Times bestselling history novelist Allison Pataki who will discuss her new book, The Accidental Empress. The Accidental Empress tells the tumultuous love story of Sisi, the Austro-Hungarian Empress and wife of Emperor Franz Joseph. The book, which follows up her critically acclaimed debut novel, The Traitors Wife, about the wife of Benedict Arnold, debuted at no. 7 on the New York Times Bestseller list. Allison, the daughter of former NY State Governor George Pataki, has also written for The Huffington Post. Read more. |
Bedford Antiques Show  The Bedford Spring Antiques Show at The Harvey School is the primary fundraising event for St. Matthews Church in Bedford each year. The show kicks off with a Champagne Preview Party and Dinner at The Harvey School on Friday night at 6pm. This fundraising event continues throughout the weekend with shopping open to the public at The Harvey School in Katonah on Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday 11am-5pm. The Other Son: Two young men, one Israeli and one Palestinian, discover they were accidentally switched at birth. Fri, 4/17: 7pm. 35 Up: Michael Apted's 7 Up series examined the lives of English children every seven years from the age of 7.
This segment checks in at age thirty-five. Fri, 4/24: 7pm. The Commitments: A Dublin promoter gathers local talent to form a band performing American soul music from the likes of Wilson Pickett and Sam & Dave. Great soundtrack.

They know Jack at PAC  Jack Quartet, the "supremely cool" NY chamber ensemble is dedicated to cutting edge, up to the minute music. Their championship of contemporary music earned them the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming. Jack's repertoire includes the work of Steve Reich, John Cage, Gyorgy Ligeti, and the Greek avant-garde composer Iannis Xenakis. In 2010 they performed, In the Dark, a George Frederich Hass string quartet that required them to literally play in the dark - in four corners surrounding the audience. In the dark, dude!. New Castle Historical Society Annual Meeting  NCHS's annual meeting features a presentation by New Castle Town Historian Gray Williams who will discuss the joint effort by NCHS and the Town of New Castle to restore and maintain the town's many historic graveyards. Armonk Chamber of Commerce honors Sam Morell  The Armonk Chamber of Commerce has named Sam Morell its 2015 Citizen of the Year. The Chamber will honor Sam at a golf outing, followed by cocktails and dinner at the Whippoorwill Club on Tuesday, May 12. Sam is the founder of the Small Town Theatre Company that performs at Hergenhan Hall. The company also produces a Summer Music Series at Wampus Brook Park. Armonk's new theatre company's second production  The Hudson Stage Company, Whippoorwill Hall's new Artists-in-Residence at the North Castle Public Library, presents John Patrick Shanley's Outside Mullingar for its second main stage production.
