Armonk resident Sam Morell returns to the stage  Armonk man about town Sam Morell returns to the stage with the Small Town Theatre Company this spring in Lyle Kressler's Pinteresque black comedy Orphans. Sam last displayed his great comic timing in the lead role of STTC's 2012 production of Neil Simon's The Prisoner of Second Avenue. Here he directs and plays the lead role of Harold, who is kidnapped by two orphans. Turns out Harold is a gangster and an orphan himself. So when he pulls his pistol on them he gets the upper hand, becoming in turn both the alpha male and the father they never had. More on this and our complete Spring Theatre line-up right here. |

John Jay Lecture Series: Lincoln's War for Public Opinion  Harold Holzer, New York Historical Society Fellow and winner of the National Humanities Medal, discusses his book Lincoln and the Power of the Press: The War for Public Opinion. In it Holzer tells the story of Lincoln's mastery of press relations and the three New York publishers who dominated Civil War journalism - James Gordon Bennett of the New York Herald, Horace Greeley of the New York Tribune, and Henry J. Enso String Quartet at the Chappaqua Library  The Ensō String Quartet won the 2003 Concert Artists Guild Competition, the 2004 Banff International String Quartet Competition and the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. Diana Krall in Port Chester  This five-time Grammy-winner is the only jazz singer to have 8 albums debut at the top of the Billboard Jazz charts. Diana Krall's latest album, Wallflower, is a collection of pop covers including Bob Dylan's "Wallflower", The Eagles "Desperado", Harry Nilsson's "Everybody's Talkin'", and Elton John's "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word". Caramoor Bel Canto - Schwab Vocal Rising Stars  Caramoor Artistic Director Stephen Blier and Michael Bennett, the Associate Artistic Director of the New York Festival of Song, mentor four promising singers in a weeklong residency that culminates in this annual performance of classical Bel Canto/Can Belto. Man, Pigeons, Obsession! at the Emelin  The Pigeoning, a comedy from Robin Frohart mixes an original score from composer Freddi Price with traditional Japanese puppet theatre (bunraku) to create a parable about the modern mania for cleanliness, safety, and control. The story pits Frank, a man obsessed with order, against the pigeons that are a part of his daily life. Read more. |
VC3 Cello Trio in Chappaqua  The VC3 Cello trio perform a program of Bach, Brahms, Tombelle, and the Venezuelan composer Desenne to benefit the Hudson Chorale, a 90 voice chorus directed by the musical director of the famed West Village Chorale, Michael Conley. VC3 trio members have all won prestigious cello competitions and performed with top orchestras such as the New York City Opera orchestra. Enjoy wine and hors d'oeuvres before and after the recital. Black Book: Director Paul Verhoeven's 2006 thriller about a Jewish singer who infiltrates Gestapo headquarters for the Dutch resistance in Nazi occupied Netherlands during WWII. 28 Up: Michael Apted's 7 Up documentary series interviews 14 British school children every seven years from the age of 7 to the age of 56. Natalie Merchant at PAC  On her first new album of original material in 13 years, the eponymous, Natalie Merchant, the former 10,000 Maniacs front has moved from the multi-platinum selling new-wavey folk rock sound that made her famous to the world of adult contemporary music. Lush orchestral strings back her magnificent lower register, on songs with nods to R.E.M. and Tom Waits, on topics as far ranging as her personal life and George W. Bush. La Traviata from The Taconic Opera in White Plains  Yes, Westchester has its own Opera company. Dan Montez, Director of The Taconic Opera, presents La Traviata, Giuseppe Verdi's classic about Violetta, the restless courtesan who is reunited with her one great love, Alfredo, for a final moment before her death.
