Fiddler on the Roof at BHHS Byram Hills Stage 2014 presents their Spring Musical Fiddler on the Roof based on the collection of short stories Tevye and his Daughters by Sholem Aleichem. The original Broadway production, starring Zero Mostel, was directed and choreographed by Jerome Robbins with Book by Joseph Stein and Music by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick. Women of Ireland in Stamford Irish and Celtic music, song and dance come together in one brand new super stage spectacular. Women of Ireland features an all-female lineup of Irish step dancers including three dancers from the acclaimed troupe Riverdance, plus Michael Flatley the lead dancer from Lord of the Dance and Anthony Fallon, the four-time world champion and former Riverdance lead dancer. Whale Rider at NCPL
This 2002 drama, from New Zealand director Niki Caro, about a young Maori girl who wants to become the chief of the tribe, (a non-no for a girl) won awards at Sundance and the Toronto International Film Festival. Kesiha Castle-Hughes was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress at the age of 13. Roger Ebert gave the film 4 stars and it received a 90% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Ireland's Dervish at PAC The Performing Arts Center followed the rainbow to its end to find this troupe from County Sligo, Ireland. Dervish has been performing traditional Irish songs and original compositions around the world for 25 years. Vocalist Cathy Jordan is backed by mandola, fiddle, bouzouki accordian, flutes and whistles. Dervish was Ireland's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007. Fri, 3/7: 8pm. Cultural Katonah Lecture Series: American Icons John Jay Homestead presents Philiip Kunhardt, the Founding Director of NYU's Center for for the Study of Transformative Lives, as part of the new Cultural Katonah Lecture Series: American Icons.
