What To Do: In and Around Town
Ridicule at NCPL
This 1996 costume drama from Patrice Leconte, set in the decadent 18th century court of Versailles, has been compared to Dangerous Liaisons. In the story, a country baron appeals to Louis XVI for economic aid to help the peasants dependent upon him. He soon discovers that his case will be based more on his ability to entertain the King with witty banter rather than the merits of his plea. Ridicule was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Film and received a 78% on Rotten Tomatoes. With a discussion by LIU Professor Valerie Franco. Fri, 12/6: 7pm.
