Meatless Monday is Official in Montgomery County!
We’re excited to announce that after COK reached out to Maryland’s Montgomery County Council, the Council issued a “Meatless Monday” Proclamation encouraging residents to participate. According to Councilmember Valerie Ervin: “We have to model the behavior that we want to promote, especially when we are dealing with issues related to healthy lifestyles, animal welfare, and environmental stewardship.”

Virtual Slaughterhouse: Effective Advocacy Tool?
Imagine if people could truly experience what life is like for farmed animals. Would more people alter their eating habits? That’s what Stanford researchers are trying to find out. Using virtual reality simulation, participants can feel what it’s like to be a cow heading to slaughter – and so far, the testimonials hint at the experiment’s effectiveness.

Update: Factory Farm Worker Convicted of Animal Cruelty
Earlier this week, a pig factory farm employee was convicted of one count of animal cruelty for abusing a piglet. The charges came after the Humane Society of the United States released an undercover video exposing incredibly violent scenes of animal abuse inside Wyoming Premium Farms.
