50,000 Hens Abandoned - Felony Cruelty Charges Filed

One year ago, the owners of a Turlock, Calif. egg factory farm reportedly abandoned the facility, leaving behind 50,000 hens in cages without food. While most of the birds either died or were euthanized, over 4,400 were rescued in a monumental effort led by Animal Place. The suffering these birds endured is unimaginable, and the case is now going to court: the owners are facing felony charges of animal cruelty.

Horsemeat Scandal Prompts UK Consumers to Eat Less Meat

The discovery of horse DNA in beef products throughout Europe has left UK consumers with a bad taste in their mouth. Distrustful of the food industry and questioning where their food comes from, 20% of British adults report eating less meat as a result of the scandal. This news is also an alarming reminder for American consumers about the lack of transparency in our food production system.

Get hands-on experience while organizing feed-ins, leafleting, and working with COK staff on a wide range of projects and campaigns.
