Greetings, Earlier this week, visiting the "Met" was a necessity inspite of the snow in New York. When traveling, a museum visit for us is a must, but no more than one a day, please. Otherwise, it is often just too much to absorb. In the image below, I'm studying a beautiful Georgian serpentine chest of the 18th century in a proper setting with period objects and paintings. These rooms draw you in with their beauty and leave you with a greater understanding of history, beauty, and culture. You can never visit too many times.

Below, a discovery this week of an American stable scene by H. C. Bispham and dated 1874. Bispham, born 1841, died 1882, and was a Philadelphia painter studying under William Trost Richards and also spent years of study in Paris and Rome. He exhibited in Boston, Philadelphia, Paris, and New York. He was a fine artist and is well listed. Ref: Falk's.
The polished original frame is of walnut and ebonized trim with a gilt liner. Restored. H. 25", w. 31".

This large Louis Phillipe gilt pier mirror explains the relationship between the 18th century Louis XV production and the reinterpretation of the 19th century in France. Traditional design was continued but reinterpreted in a new way. The shellwork and rococo continues with a bit diferent construction and execution. A dramatic piece, this can add elegance to an entry hall or an important wall above a substantial commode. Original gilt with minor repair and touch ins. H. 72", w. 43.5".

From a local collection, these Japanese ebonized ring turned storage boxes have domed wooden lids with gilt, stamp decorated brass applied fittings. Each is supported on four incurvate legs and nicely scaled to flank a doorway or fireplace. Late 19th or early 20th century. Sold a a pair, each is h. 16", d. 14".
