Greetings,
This afternoon I returned from what is really an
antiques week in New York with visits to shops, museums, antique sales, and of course the famous "East Side Show". A friend who attended opening day of the show said that they was quite a line waiting to get in and red sold stickers were already abundant (there was also an evening preview). As always, the top quality was quickly evident. I don't like to miss this show which offers so much and is somewhat of a bell weather of the coming year. It is as large and well attended as I've seen before but with more diverse offerings in age and categories.

Returning home, I thought you would like to see some of my most recent finds.

This charming 19th century mill scene in oil on canvas is filled with detail and offers a country view with a man fishing from the shore with a long pole, while in the distance, figures walk to the mill, one carrying a sack of grain. The building is of stone construction and has a wooden race or flume running to the wheel. Original gilt frame. Canvas remounted on board.  H. 26.5, w. 35" overall with framing.

A most desirable form in British furniture, the George III Chippendale bachelor's chest is most versatile because of its small size. This example is of the late 18th century with cockbeaded moldings on the drawers, a molded edge top, nice old brass pulls, and bracket feet. The sliding shelf hidden above the drawers is a brush slide. H. 30", w. 25" , d. 18.5".
The brass lamp is a now electrified French candlestick of the early 18th century. The marble base is for balance and proportion.  H. 20" overall.
