Greetings, I will be on hand this weekend for appointments to share the excitement of some our latest collection. If you are close by, please call ahead. as always, coffee is on, along with other refreshments, for a pause during your busy weekend. Just in! Here is the first American sack back Windsor armchair that I've had in some time. Legs and arm supports are boldly turned in a true Windsor turning with the arms terminating in carved knuckles. This is a late 18th century example in a most desirable old painted finish with layers of paint history. Old black is over older green and ocher layers in an alligatored finish. There are no major replacements to this chair and only minor repair.

This chair is not branded but is likely by the Connecticat maker E. B. Tracy, Connecticut, 1790-1803. Measurements are: h. 35.5", w. 24", d. 20", seat height 16". This differs from other Connecticut Windsors in its abruptly swelling spindles, distinctive seat shape and leg turnings, thin medial stretcher with arrows, and arm supports which are different than the legs. Note that the bow tapers as it enter the medial bow rather than tapering.
