Above, we see a very desirable piece of furniture in an era where most could own little. The robust characteristics of this period announce attention to beauty as well as function in design. 17th century English Baroque furniture was largely in oak, that, while long lasting, was very hard and coarse grained, making carving more difficult. The court cupboard that we have acquired shows the work of a talented carver who drew on favorite themes of the period including tendrils, strap-work, birds, heavy turned columns, and leafage. All is preserved here in a remarkable old patina. There is nothing quite like these layered old finishes in warmth and depth.
For your setting, the strength, beauty,  and power of the design could be the focus of a beautiful major wall when flanked with period chairs and flanked by mirrors or art. Storage and utility are also part of the design, having cupboard doors and shelves within.
Above,  a detail of the 17th century court cupboard central panel. Old restoration as expected in a piece of this age. H. 61", w. 56", d. 21.5".

The pair of large 17th-18th century restored armchairs are walnut and likely Italian.  Gilt leafage scrolls are finials. The ancient leather is retained with repairs as testimony to their  age. H. 57", w. 25", d. 23". $845 each, sold as a pair.

This 17th century Italian credenza has a large cornice with egg and dart moldings above a central drawer over a door, all rimmed in further carving and paneling. Below, a well carved molding has stop-fluting as part of the apron above carved lion's paw feet. A rich mellow brown tone enhances the walnut timber. A small size as these go. H. 36", w. 29", d. 13".
On top of the credenza, three 17th-18th century heavy brass mortars. Call or email for pricing.
