Greetings,
The functions of a good bureau are often determined by height. This 33'5" tall example might be perfect for your hall or living room as it will easily hold lamps at a proper reading height and look great flanked by a pair of period chairs.
This superb English George III mahogany Chippendale chest has delightful details of a moulded edge on a conforming top above a bold serpentine base with thumbnail moulded edge drawers below a brush slide. The serpentine front drawers are flanked by rare "blind" fretwork. All stand on well shaped ogee bracket feet. Overall in a nice polish and depth of graining and color. Brasses are cast and filed, fitting into the original holes. H. 33.5" w. 47" , d. 25".
Below, and with more images to the right, is is an American eagle, said to be a pilothouse eagle for use on steamboat or ship. A unique and lively 19th century folk art piece, the carver worked with a pine body and walnut wings. Substantial in size, it measures 20" tall, 17" wide , and 25" in length, it would be ideal atop a period tall chest Minor repairs. $1095.
A most elegant lamp pair appears above at right. Full details include extensive floral and swag work with ram's heads, hooves, oval cartouches, beading, and fluting. This high quality pair of 18th or early 19th century classical plated Sheffield candlesticks now wired and properly balanced by a later marble base. Recent wiring. Overall height 20", bases are 6' by 6".
