Greetings,
Spring is our time to trim trees and plan gardens. Our neighborhood deer herd leaves little after the winter, inspiring new efforts. We've also been busy seeking rare objects in the antiques world with some fun pieces turning up just this week.
Above is an early 19th century Charles X Boulle style clock decorated in red tortoise shell, engraved brass, and brass castings. this a Paris movement with a 21 day duration movement which strikes on the hour and half hour.
A putti rests at the top of a pagoda roof over a case with rich decoration and mounts. Below him are other playful cast figures. Thoroughly decorated , the interior is tiled in a manner matching the outer case.
The brass works is inscribed " Charles Taylor and Son". The pendulum has a sunburst around a mask of Apollo. H. 15", w. 7.5".
Here, a George III Hepplewhite styled secretary desk, circa 1800, has an elegant mahogany and mahogany veneered case with period brass and bone interior knobs. It is in two parts, with four sections glazed within arching reeded rims. A desk interior is concealed behind the reeded dropfront panel. Below, cupboard doors open to reveal a central sliding shelf with low sides. All is supported by tall, slender flaring French feet flanking a shaped apron. With narrow width, this is most easy to place. The upper section might display a collection or leather bound books. H. 80",w. 36", d. 19.5". You will not need to think about or discuss this purchase at my tempting $2650. No major repair.
