"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time."

 Greetings,

Today a note from the Charles Dicken's book, David Copperfield, in this oil on canvas of "Peggotty's" seaside cottage. This charming  painting, in the original gilt frame, depicts a now overturned derelict ship stern with a door installed to make a seaside cottage. Peggotty herself is shown in red nearby, with views of distant ships to either side, all done in fine detail. It is signed in the lower right. H.24", w.37".

Lower left of the signed English 19th century oil painting.

Below, A pair of brass Rococo Louis XV style candelabra of six lights each laden with heavy prisms and swags. Rewired and with minor wear and few chips. Height 26". Old copies. $995 the pair.
