                        Fine 17th, 18th, and 19th Century Antiques

 Greetings,

This large canvas is signed by J. Hammerstad in the lower right.
Hammerstad painted the Hudson River Valley as well as other American views. Here a vast mountainous scene is viewed from a rapidly moving river with all of the ruggedness of nature in this daylight image. Especially lifelike is the way his brushwork catches the water as it moves over the rocky dam. The size is 56" by 32" overall and priced at $1700.

An Alexander Francois Loemans (attributed but not signed) oil on canvas within a later carved cove frame. Loemans was a new York artist who painted in the late 19th century. This mountainous scene is a variation of an apparent favorite of Loemans of which he painted several unique versions. The scene captures a meeting of Indians on an unusual rock ledge. Four or five figures are shown with a campfire to the right.

The Loemans is 27" by 42" overall, well framed in a carved cove framing and priced at $1250.
