Above, "Travelers in an Italian Landscape", is in oil on canvas and painted in the manner of Gaspard Dughet in the 17th or 18th century. Fascinating in its detailed treatment including distant buildings and figures, this calming scene with a central steam leads the eye to travelers with their goat herd and dog heading along a path. Above the sheltering trees is a blue sky with puffy white clouds. H. 34 1/2", w. 44 1/2". Offered at $1975. We help with shipping arrangements.
Below, one of a lively pair of gilt bronze Bacchante with hairy legs and hooves, crowned with a wreath of grape vines carries candelabra to light the party. He stands on a fluted classical column with a white marble plinth. Ht. 10". $650 the pair.
This handsome companion pair of Italian Baroque walnut armchair of the 17th century have well carved details and imposing size. At left, carved busts of a man act as finials as well as arm supports. Horizontal splats above and below are richly carved and mounted with central burl plaques. H. 57 1/2", w. 26", d. 26". On the example to the right, gilt cartouches as finials are above period 17th century tapestry panels with fruit and flowers. H. 53 3/4", w. 24", d. 22'. The pair, $1775.
