Greetings, Above is an ancient verse to reflect on the era of neoclassical influence shared by our landscape below. Already, many new pieces to begin a new year, some from last week's buying trip. Not all are pictured here or on our website, so please do not hesitate to inquire for your additional needs.

This sizable and charming Hudson River Valley painting offers a robust sense of 19th century American commerce and its own notion of rural imagery. It is portrayed in oil on canvas and is still in its original cove frame having rope molding and leafage detail. Below a blue sky with puffy white clouds, the busy foreground scene depicts boatmen loading barrels and a fisherman, with his dog, walking to the pier. Nearby are finely painted plants and flowers of the region. Beyond, various craft head up river toward a city on a distant hill with details shown of houses, church spires, and other buildings. All is done in soft colors by a country artist who knew how to show the beauty of the river. Initialed lower right. The size is 33" by 41 1/2" overall. Professionally cleaned, relined, and restored. Please call or email for enlargeable images. $3150.
This rare 19th century Arita Imari form is in very good order with no repair. The mouth is fully decorated with diaper-work details over a body with panels featuring landscapes and floral groups, all surrounded by butterflies in imaginary colors and patterns. Height 11 1/2". $385.
