Greetings, Both American games tables shown here feature single leaf folding tops which rest, when in use, on a swing leg to the rear. Both are in the Hepplewhite neoclassical style and circa 1785-1810, but from there, offer many differences upon close examination.

The table above is New England , possibly Boston, and of mahogany primary wood. The attractive shape of the line inlaid top is formed at the ends with what are referred to as "par valance" or "ovolo" corners. Below, the maker made his case conform to the shape of the top, which although much more labor, is a pleasing design. The central apron has a highly figured retangular plaque with a central oval , again crotch grained, all bounded in line inlay which continues on the apron and bounds the square tapered legs just below ovals in dark hardwood. W. 35", d. 17 1/2", h. 30". No major repair. $1250.
