              Fine 17th, 18th, and 19th Century Antiques

Greetings,
Our thanks to those who were able to join us for our Open House event. In spite of power outages and unpredictable weather, the show went on with quite a lively group in attendance.
Above is a wonderful carved, gessoed, and paint decorated Italian 18th or 19th century wooden cartouche with shellwork, gilt strapwork, and a central Chinoiserie medallion of  figures playing musical instuments in a garden setting, all in tones of blue and green with red highlights. The piece is carved from a thick block of wood with minor warping and handplaning marks evident. 19" by 29". $925. This is well scaled to use as an overdoor or mantlepiece.

This landscape is painted in on canvas by California artist Gordon Coutts. Coutts, born in Scotland, is a well listed and well regarded artist who was a student of Lefebvre. Here, a deep woods setting is brought to life with stong sunlight on a flock with shepherdess. reframed in a fine gilt frame. Overall, 25" by 35".
18th century burl tankards such as this Norwegian example were handcarved from dense burlwood. They were done with the finest fashionable silver models of the period in mind. Here the carver included six lions. one at the lid, one as a thumblift, and four as feet. He carved a rosette underneath next to his initails, OXS(?). We have left the finish in the old dry state, but oiling would quickly enrich the color and bring out the detail of the burl if you choose.  H. 9". $925.
All these pieces are available here for your viewing now and beyond, subject to prior sale. We are glad to provide further detailed images or offer appointments here.
